A comprehensive evaluation on the natural mineral water
resource of Baishan City and the naming of Baishan as
“China Baishan International Mineral spring City”
Baishan City is located in the foothills of Changbaishan Mountain, in the Southeast of Ji Lin Province. It covers an area of approximately 17,000 square kilometres, 83.4 percent of which is still covered in forest. In Baishan, the stratum volcano landscape provides some unique hydro geological condition within an untouched and near virgin natural ecology.
It was the giologic, ecologic and, physical topography with such an abundance of excellent natural mineral water resource, which attracted the attention of the International Foundation for the Protection of Drinking Water in the first instance.
The Foundation dispatched experts to carry out field investigation on the mineral water spring sites under the jurisdiction of Baishan City. Results were obtained from several internationally recognized water testing authorities and the following conclusions are made:
Baishan City has natural mineral water resources in abundance, 130 natural mineral water springs have been proven, providing a combined daily capacity of 260,000 cubic meters. The natural mineral water resource of Baishan City is contained within a 17,000 square kilometre territory.
This highly concentrated natural mineral water resource within a relatively small region is an excellent example of a natural mineral water resource enriched zone, which makes Baishan one of the largest mineral water resources in the world.
This abundance of outlets provide a rich diversification in composition of trace elements and mineral consistency. Predominately cold springs, there are also hot springs, therapeutic qualities of which are presently under investigation.
Therefore, variation in consumer demands from all aspects can be met. The mineral content, composition of beneficial trace elements and minerals place the mineral spring waters of Baishan in an advantageous position, with the water quality and palatability as high if not higher as that of any of the world famous mineral water brands.
With 83.4 percent of the region still covered in dense virgin forest and the majority of the spring sites being located in this pristine natural environment which has been subjected from little to no artificial pollution.
Here abundant precipitation provides sustenance for rich vegetation that presents a clean green environmental friendly image that is an integral part of the marketing and promotional campaigns that are required to promote mineral waters in the present day international commercial arena.
Baishan City in cooperation with the International Foundation for the Protection of Drinking water has established a ‘Mineral Water Nature Reserve’ and the ‘Changbaishan Mineral Water Sustainable Resource Development Model Area’. The future development of the natural mineral water resources of Baishan City will be in accordance with internationally recognised principles of sustainable environmental development.
Capital has been invested from both inside and outside the region for the purpose of developing ‘Baishan Mineral Spring’ into a National and Internationally recognized brand. Famous Chinese enterprises such as Wahaha and NongFu Spring are already established in Baishan with an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes.
In conclusion, the natural mineral water resource of Baishan City is of extremely high quality, considerable in quantity, rich in mineral content and situated in a pristine untouched natural environment that unarguable rivals any other like region in the world.
In its adoption of the practices, policies and undertakings that the international community associates with Sustainable Environmental Development, Baishan City has embarked on a course for future prosperity.
In consideration of the progress and commitment made by Baishan City the International Foundation for the Protection of Drinking Water is pleased to name Baishan City, ‘China Baishan International Mineral Spring City’.
The Foundation hopes that the Municipal Government of Baishan will make full use of this precious resource by developing Baishan City into a famous international Mineral Spring City, while in so doing make an ongoing contribution to the future
